It’s been a tumultuous year for everyone — employers, employees, and of course, voters and politicians alike. But for those of us working in HR and workforce management, 2022 has also seen a semblance of normalcy returning. Employees are, for the most part, returning to the physical workplace, and as we approach 2023, many of us are preparing for full workplace attendance or hybrid models.

That being said, 2023 is set to be a transformative year for businesses and organisations in Malaysia. As HR practitioners begin to prepare for the year ahead, there’s one thing that the past couple of years have certainly emphasised: a powerful HRMS is crucial to the success of a business.

But how do you begin to choose the right HRMS for your business? Here are some tips to ensure you make the best decision.

1. Find an HRMS that goes beyond the basics

HRMS (also known as HR platforms/HRIS/HR apps) options are plentiful these days, but many options simply cover the basics of HR and related processes. When shopping for the right HR app, however, it’s important that you choose an option that goes beyond core HR, including leave management, expense tracking, and so on.

Of course, your HRMS should certainly be a reliable option when it comes to these processes, but these days, a powerful platform that can handle employee engagement, retention, and empowerment will only help your organisation to achieve its business goals. Look out for collaborative tools such as a Company Calendar, a centralised Directory, daily Check-Ins, and more.

2. Look for data security

Data security is an absolute must-have when handling sensitive data such as employees’ information. This requirement for confidentiality is already a factor in why you need an HRMS, with paper-based documentation making security a tad challenging.

But with documents such as employee agreements, remunerations, and performance reviews being very private, it’s important that you house this data within a secure database. In this regard, altHR is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers, a top-ranked cloud infrastructure that is trusted by banks and Fortune 500 companies all around the world. Find out more here.

3. Be ready to manage the modern workforce

Employees are increasingly showing a preference for flexible working arrangements, with the digital world now meaning that certain jobs can now be open to global talent pools via remote working opportunities. However, to manage a digital workforce — those working remotely or even with flexible hours — it’s paramount to have the right system in place.

Modules such as Rostering, Asset Management, Time Tracking, and even Spaces will all help in this regard. In fact, altHR comes with all of the above, as well as Performance Management to digitally manage your employees’ regular performance appraisals. It’s truly the digital era, and HR practitioners are best advised to stay on top of the latest developments with that in mind.

altHR: Taking care of employees and employers

Our long-term aim here at altHR is to enable Malaysian businesses to be awesome at doing what they do with Digi’s super app, altHR.

Manually keeping track of HR processes like leave entitlements and even performance reviews for employees can be a challenging process for employers and HR professionals — but it doesn’t have to be.

altHR can help with this. The Leaves module (one of the most popular features on the app) is a comprehensive tool that helps to keep track of your employees leave allocations, requests, and policies.

You’ll even be able to handle the more complex aspects of leave policies, such as the different entitlements for different groups of employees based on tenure with the company, marital status, levels, carry-forward balances, replacement leave policy, and even leave reports. There are even options for automatic carry-forward leave balances, or custom limits you can set.

And of course, all of that works seamlessly with the other modules in the new normal, such as Highlights,  Documents and Expenses.

HR professionals are often faced with daunting, often tedious tasks on a daily basis — tasks that have become even more difficult to handle in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

But help is available, if you know where to look. Let us streamline your HR processes by managing and automating day-to-day tasks, so you won’t have to worry about things like paperwork, privacy concerns, time-tracking, or onboarding challenges.

Sign up for altHR, the all-in-one digital solution that covers everything from onboarding, to staff management and providing employees with information kits. You’ve done it the old way long enough.
