2021 has seen a huge rise in flexible working arrangements, with the pandemic accelerating the adoption of various flexible work arrangements — including remote work models, traditional work models, or even hybrid models (a combination of the two former setups).
As we begin 2022, many, if not most employees are now back to the physical workplace. However, this doesn’t mean that flexible work arrangements no longer have a place in the current business environment, with as much as 83 percent of the workforce reportedly preferring hybrid work models for the future.
There are some obvious concerns, however, from the perspective of employers and HR. How do you ensure that employee productivity isn’t affected? How do you even begin to track — and improve — employee productivity for flexible work arrangements?
According to Accenture, people feel productive — wherever they are — provided that have access to the following resources:
Additionally, it’s equally important to invest in the right infrastructure. Many companies had to (very) abruptly transition from manual, traditional work systems to digital workarounds when the first lockdowns were implemented in Malaysia during early 2020.
In 2022, however, it has become essential for businesses of all sizes to be prepared with the right digital tools. These can include the obvious, such as cloud storage, and range to things like cloud-based business phone systems such as Omni Hotline for remote customer success teams. Read more about that here.
The glue to hold your entire business together in 2022, of course, will be a good HR system. The distinction between a good and a great HRMS, however, is the added functionality and featues that you get in addition to core HR modules — including the end-to-end of your company and employees’ needs, communications, and day-to-day of operations.
Here are 3 ways that altHR can help with employee productivity — while simplifying your basic HR needs:
altHR comes with a wide range of features, including the Performance Management module. This module essentially empowers you to build a transparent, central performance tracking system through easy-to-use performance reviews — all within the altHR platform and app.
You’ll even have the flexibility to customise appraisal cycles within the app to fit your company’s needs, which means that you’ll be able to monitor employee growth and performance in one, integrated solution.

Even with flexible work arrangements, it’s still important for employers and HR to be aware of the location, working hours, and even health statuses of employees on a daily basis. This is where the Check-Ins module comes in, by allowing employees to easily check in on the altHR mobile app — particularly handy for hybrid work models, with a portion of the team working remotely/from home, while others may be in the physical office space.
Crucially, employees will also be able to update the app with their health statuses of the day, so HR personnel can monitor the health and wellbeing of employees on a daily basis — while ensuring that any potential COVID-19 cases can be isolated, with contact tracing efforts implemented immediately.

You should (definitely, most certainly) get rid of any legacy punch card systems you might have in place. They tend to be unreliable, and they add to the growing list of tedious, repetitive tasks for HR departments to sort through every month — taking energy and time away from more critical tasks.
Instead, altHR comes with a Time Tracking module, one that allows you to set up and view clock-ins and clock-outs for employees in real-time. This can be customised by admins based on job bands, or even different teams within a company, so you’ll be able to monitor the hours of your employees.
This also works in tandem with the Rostering module. In addition to retail and shift-based workforces, Rostering is also extremely effective in empowering successful flexible work models. For example, you might be executing team a/b setups in light of the risks posed by the Omicron variant (or COVID-19 in general) — rostering allows you to manage the number of people that will be in the office on any given day, at any given time.

Manually keeping track of HR processes like leave entitlements and even performance reviews for employees can be a challenging process for employers and HR professionals — but it doesn’t have to be.
altHR can help with this. The Leaves module (one of the most popular features on the app) is a comprehensive tool that helps to keep track of your employees leave allocations, requests, and policies.
You’ll even be able to handle the more complex aspects of leave policies, such as the different entitlements for different groups of employees based on tenure with the company, marital status, levels, carry-forward balances, replacement leave policy, and even leave reports. There are even options for automatic carry-forward leave balances, or custom limits you can set.
And of course, all of that works seamlessly with the other modules in the new normal, such as Highlights, Documents and Expenses.
